MIDDLESBROUGH TO BREAK WORLD RECORD IN 48 HOUR FUTSAL MATCH

Middlesbrough Futsal Club are planning to smash a Guinness World Record in October by playing in the longest ever futsal match – 48 hours – at Thornaby Pavilion, while raising money for local charity Cash for Kids.

The current Guinness World Record for the longest futsal match was set in Natal, Brazil and lasted just over 32 hours, but Boro will go one step further and beat the Brazilians at their own game from 8th til 10th October. Middlesbrough Futsal Club will take on Teesside University in the futsal marathon and are aiming to raise £10,000 for TFM radio’s Cash for Kids.

To break a Guinness World Record, the game must be played to the FIFA Laws of the game, so there can be 12 players on each team. There can also be five minutes rest for every hour played and club chairman, and event organiser Damon Shaw knows it will be a massive test of endurance.

“48 hours is a very long time to play futsal, but with 7 subs and beds by the side of the pitch we’ll get through it! It’s going to raise a lot of money for an excellent local cause, while also getting us into the Guinness Book of World Records and raising the awareness of futsal.”

People and companies can still get involved either by taking part or sponsorship and Damon Shaw is urging people to get in touch to make the event a success. Spectators will also be allowed to watch with raffles and prize draws taking place throughout the 48 hours.

“We still want 7 more players to join in, and anybody can. All we are asking is players aim to raise around £400 so we can hit our target of £10,000. We are also searching for companies to get involved by sponsoring a player for £200. It’s also a great opportunity for people to come and watch and see a World Record in the making.”
