Fiji TimesTeam dedicates win to Dr Derek SikuaTuesday, August 17, 2010KURUKURU captain Elliot Ragomo dedicated the team's victory in the Oceania Futsal Championship to the country's newly elected government and prime minister.
Ragomo feels Futsal will become the number one sport in Solomon Islands after the team's record third win.
He also collected the championship's golden boot and ball awards having scored 15 goals.
Teammates Micah Lea'Alafa scored 14 while Jack Wetney was on 10.
"We're really happy.
"This victory is for the newly elected government, our prime minster and members of the parliament.
"I hope the new government recognises Futsal and continues to help us in future," he said.
"I just have one request for the government.
"Build us a Futsal stadium, that's all.
"We keep on winning but without facilities. We have nothing yet we keep winning. So please, why can't our government help us. There is talent in Solomon Islands but no facilities. We need help."
He said the side was looking forward to the qualifiers next year.
"To win a tournament is amazing. That was our aim. We came to defend our title and we came to show who is the best in Oceania and we've proved who is the best.
"I assure you we will be 100 per cent ready for the qualifier.
"As we mature, this team will get even better. It's good that we started young. We do the basics right. You can not do the fancy stuff without the basics.
You start with the basics and then the fancy stuff comes in.
"Everyone back home loves the sport and that shows in our game."
Ragomo said they enjoyed their stay in Fiji.
"The whole week - it has been amazing. The people are very friendly and food is very nice too," he said.
