Heroic welcome

The Our Telekom Kurukuru Futsal team arrived to a rousing welcome at the Honiara International airport in honor of winning the OFC Futsal Championship in Suva, Fiji.

The boys were surprisingly meet by Miss Solomon Islands Rabobo Toma and Miss Our Telekom inside the international terminal before being greeted with garlands and hugs from their supporters, friends and parents outside the arrival lodge.

Hundreds of supporters and fans turn up at the Airport to welcome the heroes with banners “go kurukuru go”.

It was an exciting moment for the supporters, fans and parents to see the young heroes arriving with medals hanging over their neck, trophies and other awards.

As part of the welcome ceremony the boys were then led for a brief refreshment prepared by the parents before taken on board a waiting convey of vehicle prepared by the major sponsor Our Telekom.

More than 16 vehicles from Our Telekom followed the Kurukuru boys blowing horns and chanting “go kurukuru go” as they parade down to the capital city.

They deserves such a huge welcome for making the country proud.

As the team paraded down from the airport to White River and return to SIFF Academic by-standers shows some appreciation by waving their hands and throw the boys a thumps up sign.

It was indeed yet another great victory for the Kurukuru for winning the title three times a in row

SIFF development officer Noel Wagapu on behalf the SIFF congratulated the team for the great achievement.

He said to reciprocate the achievement SIFF is organizing a formal gathering for the team together with the sponsor on Saturday 6pm at Lawson Tama.

Captain Elliot Ragomo said the team was surprised to receive such a big welcome from the public and especially for the high turnout of the sponsors.

He said the team did not expect such welcome but that shows that the sport has a bright future ahead.
