Solomon Star NewsPlayer reportedly misbehave in SuvaTuesday, 17 August 2010One of country’s top player had been reportedly drunk and acted disorderly on Sunday night in Suva prior to the team’s return yesterday.
Jack Whetney was said to be drunk turning up at a restaurant during a fundraising drive by the Fulton Pathfinder club and was unable to control himself.
A source close to Star Sports reported that the way the Futsal star acted was shameful as it was witnessed by the public, local students and the Futsal team members from New Caledonian and Vanuatu.
“Upon arriving at the restaurant where the fundraising was held he made his way inside, wobbly and clearly not sober, hi-fiving everyone he passed, and talking nonsense,” the source said.
The New Caledonia team members were in the same restaurant and witnessed the Futsal star acting disorderly.
He even went over to the New Caledonian coach to give ‘hi-five’.
“The coach had to control Jack. Even helping him out of the restaurant,” the source said.
It is believed another local student had invited young Whetney to the fundraiser.
One of the local students studying in Fiji said the action by the Futal star was disappointing.
“So much for being an ambassador,” the student said
Outside of the restaurant the Futsal also acted disorderly.
The incident was also witnessed by the Vanuatu Futsal team.
Young Whetney had to be put into a taxi accompanied by a local student at the University of the South Pacific back to the Peninsular hotel where the teams were lodging.
However team coach Dickson Kadau yesterday denied it saying the report was not true.
He said the teams during the presentation do have a party together with Fiji Solomon Islands Community but he did not see any of the players misbehaving.
“We have rules that guide us during such events.
“The boys can enjoy during the party but occasionally they are restricted to taking alcohol,” he said.
The reports that Whetney is misbehaving is not true because during that time I don’t see any of the boys misbehaving.
