Kurukuru’s heartache

Tuesday, 17 August 2010

By Charles Kadamana

Everyone is celebrating the victory of Our Telekom Kurukuru for successfully defending its OFC Futsal Championship three times in row and making the nation proud but the biggest cry for our heroes is still yet to be heard.

And their biggest cry is to have a proper playing and training facilities or stadium purposely for Futsal.

Despite of all the great achievements they made for three conservative years nothing has been discussed by the responsible authorities over their plight.

There were promises being made by leaders and responsible authorities, yet these sweet talks have yet to materialize.

When the boys won the first OFC Futsal Championship in 2008 the government together with Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) assured the boys that they will build stadium but nothing has eventuated.

Team Manager Tausiga Mapuru said the team although return with victory could not stop crying.

He said the biggest cry is to have proper training facilities.

“There are venues that can be upgraded and it is just a matter for the new government to take on board and discuss it with the responsible authority,” he said.

One supporter told Star Sports that it is time for the government and responsible authority to recognize the contribution of futsal in our country.

He said Futsal has taken the pride of the country to the outside world and this sport so be provided with better facilities because it has a bright future.

Not only that but the sport won the hearts of many children across the country.

The supporter believes that once the futsal has its own stadium Solomon Islands will a team that is had to beat in 10 years time.

Already Kurukuru has prove to other pacific countries that they are team had to beat after making a clean sweep victory at the OFC Futsal Championship in Suva, Fiji.
