Kurukuru take time to recall

Tuesday, 24 August 2010

"We should be thankful that we were introduced to futsal"

OUR Telekom Kurukuru after three consecutive years as the Oceania region’s ‘King of Futsal’ took time out to recall and appreciate the very first people who introduced futsal in the country.

The team sat down together and remembered the very people who introduced the sport in the country and they were the Dural Sports Leisure Center folks in Sydney who were the backbone of futsal in Solomon Islands.

Our Telekom Kurukuru team Head Coach Dickson Kadau yesterday told Star Sport that it was the Sydney based sporting centre who first introduced the game in 2000.

He said being the champions for three consecutive years was something Solomon Islanders should be proud of but we have to look back to the roots and acknowledged the very people who pioneered the sport in the country.

“I can proudly say that the boys did a fine job but we must not forget to thank those who first introduced the game to the boys because without them there would no such team as Kurukuru existing today”, Coach Kadau said.

The Our Telekom Kurukuru team Captain Elliot Ragomo as a pioneer of the Solomon Islands futsal national team also conveyed his acknowledgement for the Dural Sports Leisure Center in Sydney.

“On behalf of Jack Wetney and I, we would like to especially thank Mr Brian Codrington of the Dural Sports Leisure Center in Sydney for helping us in introducing the basics of the game which is really the key that helps us to reach the stage where we are right now.”

“I think without them we would not have had any chance of experiencing historical moments like we share at the moment and would not have the international recognition from other countries through the game of futsal”, Ragomo said.

He said personally he felt that the sporting centre in Sydney has done so much in shaping and equipping himself as well as other members of Kurukuru.

The Kurukuru captain is one of the local players whom which under the Dural Sports Centre offered Ragomo a scholarship in Australia as well as in Spain just for the current OFC golden boot award winner to study and play.

Both Coach Kadau and Ragomo the two men who led Kurukuru to victory just recently in Suva, Fiji dedicated the three years of achievement and success to their mentors in Sydney.

“They have introduced the game to us and now we are placed as champions on the world map”. We dedicate our success and more victories to come to our friends at the Dural Sports Centre in Sydney”, they said.
