Scarborough Evening NewsFutsal crazy for Ellie's Fund26 August 2010A GROUP of footballers will be kicking off tomorrow to raise cash for a Scarborough charity.
Members of the Manor FC futsal club are holding a tournament at Filey Road sports centre to raise cash for Ellie's Fund.
The fund was set up in memory of Scarborough teenager Ellie Othick-Bowmaker, who died earlier this year after batting a brain tumour.
One of the players, Lee Sutton, 16, said: "We're all fairly young so we thought we'd raise money for a young people's charity. And a couple of the lads knew Ellie."
Players each have sponsorship forms and they are also hoping people will turn up on the day to watch and support the fundraising event, which takes place from 10am to noon.
Futsal is similar to five-a-side football but played with a heavier ball, on a different-sized pitch and is more "technical". The club plays in a Bridlington league.
