Staggering rise in team nominations

by Mick McDonald

TEAM nominations for the summer futsal competition at Saxbys Stadium Taree have increased a staggering 60 percent on last year's numbers, with nominations still coming in.

Futsal will now be played three nights per week as opposed to one night last summer.

Player registration continues tomorrow at Saxbys Stadium between 4.30-6.30 pm. The committee requires all players to register this week if they intend to play on the first night of the competition, starting September 15, 16 and 17. Draws will be posted to the website www.manningfutsal.com

B Division competition will now be played on Wednesday nights and has surpassed all expectations with nominations still being received, and is likely to be graded (B and C) after the first half of the draw. This competition has doubled in size warranting a separate night as youth and mixed teams enter to participate in the game.

On Thursday afternoon, once again due to the high number of team nominations, the 13/14 years competition will be graded after the first half of the draw and perhaps the 11/12 years also when all nominations are confirmed.

A Division and the women are once again strong with nominations still being accepted for Thursday night.

The 9/10 years competition is definitely starting on Friday afternoons, as well as a 13-15 girls competition for the first time. More nominations for both these competitions will be accepted. All girls are most welcome whether new or experienced soccer players. The eight years non-competitive tournament is coming together and will also be kicking off shortly on Friday afternoon.

A referees' course started on Monday night not only boosting the number of referees available at Saxbys Stadium, but ensuring that games will be controlled by accredited FFA futsal referees who are up to date with the 2010 laws of the game. With futsal competitions being played over three nights during summer, a strong pool of officials will be needed to give good coverage and supply two referees per game.
