Futsal Nation returns Oct 10

THE SECOND Annual SW Futsal Invitational will be held on Sunday, October 10 (two weeks after the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago).

Futsal Invitational will take place at the Eastern Regional Indoor Arena-formally dubbed “Futsal Nation”.

As with the inaugural competition held in 2009 at the University of the West Indies Sports and Physical Education Centre (SPEC), sporting enthusiasts and football fans would be treated to ten hours of football extravagance.

The founding organisers of this venture, SW Touring, has teamed up with the University of the West Indies Student Guild for this year’s one-of-a kind sporting event.

This partnership intends to follow—through shared commitment—the mandate and vision of FIFA “to promote and structure the sport of Futsal” locally, “by means of competitions, and...other proactive measures”.

The theme of this year’s event is “Be.Champions” as men, women and youth teams nationwide will do battle in the ”smaller version of the game,” each seeking to challenge for over $45,000 in cash and prizes whilst claiming Futsal supremacy and bragging rights.

It will showcase the dynamic fusion of sports and entertainment as the venue will be transformed into the ultimate family-oriented “Futsal Nation” with moko jumbies, bouncy castles, a miniature football field, food courts, non-alcoholic bar and many more attractions. This exemplifies the motto of SW Touring in “Making Sports Entertaining”

“The venue will be transformed into a Futsal Village with three zones” says event promoter Geoffrey Edwards of the SW Touring Team. “Registration is open and we are expected to attract 24 male teams to battle reigning champions Paradise FC; 16 female teams and eight youth teams each in the Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 divisions...totalling 24 youth teams” he added.

Friendly rivalry and long standing camaraderie will continue as teams representing corporate, tertiary institutions, media, promotional entities, armed forces, sporting clubs and communities will face-off.

Spectators will also be treated to Ball Juggling Competitions, Half-line Shootouts and Exhibition Matches—whilst interacting continuously with the event’s hosts. Last year, BOOM Champions 94.1fm were defeated in an exciting match by the reigning Caribbean Futsal Champions—Trinidad and Tobago Men’s Futsal team.
