Colyton's Erin is a natural on the field

COLYTON youth Erin Hill is proving hard work does pay off.

Erin, 14, was part of the victorious NSW side at the National Christian Schools Sports Association (CSSA) Football Championship hosted by Mamre Anglican College, Kemps Creek.

She was named player of the tournament.

She is also a scholarship student at the school as part of Mamre’s football development program.

Earlier this year, Erin played for NSW at the National Futsal Championship in Canberra.

Erin is this week’s St Marys Leagues Club-sponsored Mt Druitt-St Marys Standard Junior Sports Star nominee.

“Playing in the CSSA championship was big because it was the first time I represented NSW in outdoor soccer. It just felt like such an honour,” Erin said.

On the final day of the championship she took part in training sessions with current Matildas and W-League stars.

Erin said it was an invaluable experience.

“Normally it’s just guys teaching us (when we have training sessions) so it was really good experience to see what drills they do and to show us how far we can go as girls,” she said.

Erin plays for the under-14 PCYC Lady Hawks in the NSW Super League and for Mascot Vipers in the futsal premier league.

She said every bit of experience she can get in big games only makes her better and the futsal championships in Canberra have been a boon.

She said playing at the Australian Institute of Sport in front of a large crowd in a national event added a lot of pressure on her to perform but she was up to the task.

“I just tune it all out and play. Once I get out on the field and the whistle goes I just play,” she said.

Erin hopes to have a career in the W-League when she’s older and ideally would like to earn a spot in the Matildas.
