Vikings Futsal from New Zealand

New Zealand Vikings Futsal Association
Christchurch Earthquake

The Earthquake of 7.1 that hit Christchurch on September 4th has caused disruptions to the Futsal preseason and the finals of the winter season.

The good news is that things are now starting to settle down and the State of Emergency should be lifted at 12noon on Wednesday September 15th.

The Futsal Head Office at QEII Park will be back to normal on this day as long as there is no further major after shocks.

You can contact Lauren Harkerss on 021 801 262 or Paul Wadsworth on 021 401 991 if you can't get anyone at the office or email nzfutsal@vikingsfutsal.net

A huge thank you to everyone for your support and emails. Many of the Canterbury Futsal family have been affected severely by the quake, losing their entire house, business and struggling mentally with the ongoing after shocks. Your support has been fantastic and comforting.

Your competition coordinator will be in touch with you regarding upcoming fixtures. Currently the situation is this:

Pioneer Stadium Opening on Wednesday 15th with leagues in evening
Cowles Stadium Closed until further notice as stadium is being used as a community refuge centre
QEII Park Stadium Opening on Wednesday 15th with leagues in the evening and on Sunday 19th

The New Zealand Men will hold their training Camp in Christchurch this weekend as they prepare for the Vikings World Futsal Championships in Kuala Lumpur next month.

There have been no other changes relating to Futsal in Christchurch with the NZ Masters Futsal Championships (Nov 13/14th) and the South Island Futsal Championships (Nov 27/28th) all planned to go ahead as normal.

In what will be a huge boost for the the game in Christchurch and New Zealand the World Junior (16yrs) Futsal Championship will be held in Christchurch July 2011.

For those who have attended Christchurch for various tournaments and after functions held at Bar Beleza, owned by Julie Beadle, who is a huge supporter of Futsal, the bar has survived but is closed as buildings around it are condemned and she lost her Mexican restaurant Alvarado. This restaurant was featured on tv throughout the news coverage and was one of the first buildings to be pulled down (see pic below). We wish Julie all the best and look forward to new openings for Bar Beleza and Alvarado.

SEE YOU ALL AT FUTSAL SOON
