Scarborough Evening NewsLads versus dads charity futsal matchThu Sep 16It was a battle of young versus old in a special sports tournament which took place to raise money for Ellie’s Fund.
A group of 16-year-old players from Manor FC futsal team laced up their trainers to take on the opposing dad and adult team in memory of Scarborough teenager Ellie Othick-Bowmaker, who sadly died earlier this year after battling a brain tumour.
Many supporters turned out to watch the futsal tournament - a Brazilian variant of football similar to five-a-side except players use a heavier, smaller ball and play to the lines of the pitch.
And they were there to cheer on both sides in what ended a convincing victory for the sporty teenagers.
Manor FC scored more than double their opposition in an 11-5 win over the not so golden oldies.
Organiser and Manor FC player Lee Sutton who will soon be starting a sports’ course at Yorkshire Coast College said he was delighted with the result and hopes to stage another match against Graham School in Easter.
He said: “One or two of our players knew Ellie and because we’re all young we wanted to support a children’s charity.
“We were hoping to raise £200, there’s still some more to come in but I think we’ve made it.”
