14 years girls storm into North Coast Final

28 Sep, 2010

The BHS 14 years girls Futsal team will play the CHS North Coast final early next term against either Mullumbimby HS, Kadina HS or Evans River HS after smashing Wauchope HS 16-2 in the winners of Mid North Coast vs the winners of Lower North Coast. The girls had to travel to Wauchope on the last day of term to get the game played on time. Arriving at the venue early the girls didn’t know what to expect as Wauchope had come out winners over the best of Westport HS, Kempsey HS, Port Macquarie HS and Camden Haven HS. In their lead up games the Bellingen girls were convincing defeating Orara HS 12-1 and then Coffs Harbour HS 11-2, however, most of the girls are new to the game with still a lot to learn.
The game started at a fierce pace with Wauchope giving the girls little room to move. After three minutes the class began to show with Jess Marks putting Sam Barker in space who made no mistake 1-0. The girls continued to dominate with their excellent passing game and by half time the score had blown out to 9-0. The second half saw more of the same with another seven goals to BHS, but to their credit Wauchope did come back and get a couple of their own to the roars of their home town crowd. The final score of 16-2 was a great team effort and a well -deserved result for a team that has been training since the beginning of the year to learn and improve on this game. As always goals were spread around with Sam Barker 6, Jess Marks 5, Stella Robinson 2, Bianca Mason 1, Jemara Imrie 1 and Hannah Taylor 1.

While all the BHS Futsal teams are doing so well there is one down side. Four teams have qualified through to the Australian Championships that will travel to the Gold Coast for three days of competition in term 4, however, of course, this costs a lot of money. Some families have more than one child going and four girls will actually travel up twice as they represent both the 14 years and 16 years teams, as they compete over different weekends. These teams have only reached this standard due to training every week some over many years. If there is anyone able to help these talented local players in any way please contact the high school or coaches, Phil Lynch or Liz Hoy.
