CAF On LineLibya retain UNAF Futsal Championship title29/09/2010The third edition of the North African Football Union (UNAF) Futsal, which witnessed the participation of Libya, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria, and also Palestine (guest team) ended on Sept. 26, in Musrata, Libya.
The closing match was attended by the delegation of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), led by Amadou Diakite, a member of the Executive Bureau of CAF, the delegation of the North African Union (UNAF) led by the Secretary General, Mr. Saadi and Mr. Mohieddin Baccar Abdessalam, chairman of the Committee under UNAF futsal.
This competition which witnessed popular success, crowned the Libyan side that beat Morocco by 4 to 3 (4/3) in hotly encounter held in the presence of a huge crowd.
Morocco ended second with 9 points, ahead of Tunisia (6points) and Palestine (3points), while ended at the bottom with no point.
All prizes at the tournament were awarded to Libyan players. Hamdi Cherif was adjudged best player, Mohammed Cherif as best goalkeeper, Rabiaa El Houti was top scorer with 7 goals, while the fair play trophy went to the Palestinian team.
The championship winner received a cheque for 5000 US dollars from the organising committee, while the second team received 3000 dollars and the third team got 1500 dollars. The Libyan team donated its cheque to the Palestian team.
All the participating delegations to the 2010 UNAF Futsal championship praised the success of this edition.
A ceremony took place during the half time of the match, during which Mr.Saadi Abdessalam handed the trophy won by Libya at the last CAF Futsal Championship in 2008. The next tournament will be held in December in Burkina Faso.
