Newtown arena offers indoor football courses

A NEW indoor football arena, opening in Birmingham this month, is offering 30 students the chance to gain a new qualification in five-a-side playing, coaching and refereeing.

The arena, in Great Kings Street North, Newtown, promotes the only FIFA recognised form of the indoor game Futsal.

Now young players deemed talented enough will be given the opportunity to take a course designed to help them move on to university or gain a job in the growing sports and leisure industry.

The Birmingham futsal arena will be the largest in Europe and will host national and international tournaments.

Director of education Craig Beecham said: “The Futsal Scholarship programme is such a forward thinking project, it gives young players the unique opportunity to develop their technical, tactical, physiological and social skills.”
