Daily ExpressUMS FC going all out for victoryThursday, October 14, 2010Kota Kinabalu: UMS FC coach, Mohd Asyraaf Fong Abdullah will leave nothing to chance to ensure his team maintains their top spot in Group B going into the grand final of the National Felda/FAM Futsal League.
The women's team from Universiti Malaysia Sabah only needs to win two out of its three remaining matches to secure the top spot in the group.
Success in this feat will see them receiving the RM10,000 group champion prize, while second place will win RM5,000.
But the team's next two matches, which are against Selangor MBPJ FC and Selangor MPSJ FC on October 16 and 17 respectively, will not be easy pickings.
Their final group match on the other hand would be against KL Putra Ria in November.
MPSJ, who have lost only one of their group matches, is currently in second place, while fifth place MBPJ has yet to concede a match after winning one and sharing points from their other three games.
"Both these teams have quality players that have gone to represent Malaysia at several international tournaments...and are very skilful individuals.
"My preparation against these two opponents has been laid out and planned.
I have analysed the way they play from their match recordings.
I'm have also made analysis using a special computer software to gauge the to teams," said Asyraaf, adding that this was the team's new approach in strategizing.
In addition to this new strategy, Asyraaf will also be flying with his team a day earlier to the competition venue to familiarise his players with the rather different playing field.
"We will be leaving a day earlier which is tomorrow (October 14) so we have time to familiarise with the parquet match court," he said, adding that the matches could be played at the Sultan Abdul Halim In-door Stadium in Alor Setar, Kedah. The team's mission, he said, is to secure full points from the matches against MBPJ and MPSJ to secure their position as champions of the group.
UMS FC is currently at the top of the nine-team Group B standings on 12 points from four wins out of four.
MPSJ is in second place with nine points followed by Sabah in third place on seven points and Police in fourth with four points.
The top four teams from Groups A and B will make it to the grand final on November 26 and 27 in Shah Alam, Selangor.
