Gen X Are UBD Futsal Champs

Bandar Seri Begawan - Gen X were crowned the champions of the 2010 UBD Football Club (KBU) futsal tournament last night after they defeated Unissa 2-1 in the final at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Sports Complex in Tungku Link.

Jazmi Kamel opened the scoring for Gen X with a half volley to give them a 1-0 into halftime. Gen X were pressuring their opponents on defence and were keeping much of the possession.

Amalul Arif, who won the Best Player award in the tournament, doubled Gen X's lead in the second half by beating his defender and scoring from just outside the penalty area.

With a commanding 2-0 lead, Unissa were given a lifeline when Syed Abdul Muiz Hj Syed Anayatullah Shah scored an own goal with 12 minutes to play. However, Unissa could not find the back of the net again, allowing Gen X to grab the victory.

APA took the bronze winning on penalties 3-2 against PES after the match finished 2-2 in regulation.

A total of 19 teams competed in the competition which started last Wednesday.

The only other award, the topscorer award, went to Izzat Sofri of PES.

Present as the guest of honour to give away the prizes was Hj Faisal Hj Salleh, the welfare office of UBD.
