Staffordshire and Keele students to lead out Stoke City in ‘Kick it Out’ campaign

By Sam Morris

Students from Staffordshire and Keele Universities are staging a ‘futsal’ match, before leading out Stoke City and Manchester United at the Britannia Stadium to celebrate the ‘Kick it Out’ campaign.

Held each year, the “Kick it Out” campaign aims to challenge discrimination, encourage inclusive practices and work for positive change within football at all levels.

Stoke City is promoting this year’s “One Game, One Community” theme, providing students with a chance to walk onto the pitch before their clash with Manchester United carrying the “Kick it Out” flag.

Their first team squad will also be promoting the campaign, wearing “‘Kick it Out” shirts in the warm up before the Manchester United game.

Staffordshire University captain Mark Maughan said: “This is a very worthwhile cause and deserves all the promotion it gets.

“Diversity needs to be promoted throughout all levels of sport, even at University level, so we are pleased to represent Staffordshire University and the “Kick it Out” campaign.

“And, although it is a friendly, we are determined to beat Keele!”

The futsal match, an indoor 5-a-side game played with a heavier, smaller ball, will take place on Sunday October 24 at 10.30am in the Sports Hall at Keele University.
