Iran's futsal thrashes Guatemala 6-1

Iran has gained a 6-1 victory over Guatemala to stay at the top of Group D of the preliminary round of the Futsal Grand Prix Brazil 2010.

Ehsan Zahmatkesh, Mohammad Keshavarz, Asghar Hassanzadeh, Mohammad Taheri and Mahmoud Lotfi scored the goals for the Iranian outfit at Newton de Faria in Anapolis in Brazil on Monday.

The Iranian Futsal squad faces Portugal on Tuesday night as its last rival in the preliminary round of the event.

The Iranian squad drew level with Russia 2-2 in the first match of the preliminary round of the Futsal Grand Prix.

Iran has won all the editions of the Asian Futsal Championship except one. It also has some of the best futsal players on the continent and also in the world, including Vahid Shamsaei, the world's all-time leading futsal scorer with over 330 goals.

In other matches of Group D, Portugal beat Russia 2-1, the Netherlands tasted a 3-1 defeat against Italy and Argentina clinched a 4-2 victory over Spain.

The Futsal Grand Prix 2010, known as the Futsal Mini-World Cup, kicked off on October 17 and runs until October 24.
