Saipan TribuneFutsal league to kick off Nov. 1By
Roselyn MonroyoThe Northern Mariana Islands Football Association will start the 2010 NMIFA Women's Futsal Fall League on Nov. 1 at the JP Center Basketball Court.
The futsal fall league is open to two divisions: competitive and recreational. Games will be played every Monday and Wednesday nights at the JP Center Basketball Court, while Saturday morning matches will take place at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
Registration is on going with only female players in the 15-and-above age group allowed to play in the league.
The league will run for three months or until January and will be a 5-aside game.
Interested players, who have yet to find team, can register at the NMIFA office at the TSL Plaza to be listed in one of the participating squads. Registration fee is $25.
Players who had already played in the 11-aside league last spring need not to register again, but should contact their club representatives for details about the league. Each team is allowed to have only 12 players in their rosters.
Beginners are encouraged to join the league. A boot camp will be held on Oct. 30 to prepare newcomers in the fall competition.
This will be the third year of NMIFA's women's futsal program. The 5-a-side soccer game is played in an indoor or concrete outdoor surface. Futsal rules are similar to regular soccer games, but it is a much faster game as the pitch is smaller and the ball moves quickly across the concrete surface.
