'Train-the-trainers concept important'

Wednesday, 27 October 2010

Kuala Lumpur: National head coaches from Australia and Palestine have praised AFC for the taking the initiative to develop Asia’s capacity to produce trainers of futsal coaches in the continent.

FIFA and AFC held the Continental Futsal Train the Trainers Course at the PJ Hilton, here, from October 18 to 23, 2010, the first such a course for futsal.

Ghassan Al Balawi, Palestine’s national football team and national Olympic football team head coach and Steve John Knight, the Australian national futsal team’s head coach, were among the 25 participants of the course.

Al Balawi told the-afc.com that Palestine had no head coach for the national futsal team at the moment although Palestinians had shown great interest in the game which was developing in the country.

“We have no head coach for this futsal team at this time, but we have players who really need guidance on tactics. This course will help each Member Association to nurture its own coaches of coaches.

“This kind of course is exactly what futsal in Palestine needs,” Al Balawi said.

Knight, meanwhile, believed that the train-the-trainers concept was important and should be spread to all Member Associations of AFC.

“This course would equip us participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to train more futsal coaches. This way, the skills and knowledge reach out to more people in more Member Associations faster,” he said.

The course was closed on October 23 by AFC Futsal Director Ali Targholizade, who said that the participants had a chance to become Regional Futsal Instructors to be assigned to their respective regions – Asean, East, West or Central and South.

FIFA Instructor from Croatia Mico Martic and FIFA and AFC Elite Instructor Tsang Wai Chung from Hong Kong conducted the course.
