Cyprus vs Tunisia 1-7

1st Mediterranean Futsal Cup
Cyprus vs Tunisia

OFFICIAL MATCH REPORT

by James Stringer from Tripoli

A master class of counter attacking football gives Tunisia a 4 goal lead at the break thanks to goals from Mohamed Aouni, Moez Trabelsi, Hamdi Gdhami and Ouled Ali Ben Brahim Ali. Tunisia took the lead as they over ran the Cyprus defence and slotted the ball into an empty net from close range. Shortly after Aouni had given them the lead Moez fired in Tunisia’s second.

After that goal the Cypriot team started to settle and play some decent Futsal, they had a shot that was well saved by the keeper, squeezing through his legs but just wide of the right hand post. The game was starting to become a lot more confrontational and Christodoulou Christos became the first player of the game to pick up a yellow card for obstruction.

Another example of the swift counter attacking Futsal on show from Hamdi Gdhami increased Tunisia’s lead further. This was followed by two double penalty misses for Tunisia and then Ouled Ali Ben Brahim Ali scored for Tunisia. Another counter attack from a Cyprus corner leaves the keeper rushing out, Ouled Ali Ben Brahim Ali scored shifts to the right and passes it into an empty.

The second half started much more brightly for Cyprus but they quickly found themselves received another Yellow card, this time Papadopoulos Lakovos picked it up for another foul on a Tunisian player. The rest of the second half was littered with cards as Manoli Manolis picks one up for Cyprus, Mohamed Aouni, Meher Mazhoud and Issam Abidi picking up yellow cards for Tunisia.

Inbetween the cards we saw Cyprus hit the back of the net for their only goal of the game while Tunisia continued to exploit Cyprus with devastating counter attacking football which eventually saw them run out 7-1 winners.

Most Valuable Player Mohamed Aouni said after the game “in the beginning it’s difficult, the coach taught us the counter attack and we use that to exploit the other teams.”

It’s worth noting that this is the second month in charge for Head Coach Bouabid Lofti and he clearly enjoys this style of Futsal.
