Libya coach Pablo Prieto wants to win the 1st Mediterranean Futsal Cup “for the sake of Libyan Sport”. Speaking after Wednesday’s 7-4 win over African rivals Morocco, Mr. Prieto was confident in his sides chances and the impact winning the tournament would have on Libyan sport as a whole.
The Mediterranean Futsal Cup, organised by the Libyan Futsal Teams Department is the biggest futsal event ever to take place on the African continent and is a big step forward for Libya, who want to be a major player in world sport.
Tripoli is one of the bidding cities for the Mediterranean Games in 2017, and futsal has been included in their bid. The success of this tournament will go a long way to proving Libya can host World Class events.
The support of the Libyan fans is also a massive factor in bringing sport to the country and Pietro was quick to acknowledge that and wants to win for them as well.
“We are very excited that we are playing on home soil. It's not easy to win any tournament. For sure we are the organisers, we are the top contender to win and we will do our best to win the tournament especially for these fans who are supporting us, who are behind us.”He went on to praise Morocco for their part in a thrilling game and he also thought both red cards were harsh.
“Morocco is a very good team, we had difficulty to stop their attacker (Baya Yahya),” who was instrumental in their comeback, scoring the three goals that levelled the scores. All of the Mediterranean Futsal Cup can be followed on
