Steven Spierings09 Nov, 2010KELLYVILLE High School's girls futsal team are in a race against the clock to come up with the $40,000 needed to compete at next year's International High School Futsal Cup in Wales.
The under-16s team received an invitation after they won last month's Australasian Futsal Championship at Runaway Bay in Queensland.
Team coach Fabio Caprarelli said he would be pulling out all the stops necessary to send his students on the trip of a lifetime.
"It's going to cost up to $6800 for each person," Caprarelli said.
"We're exploring every way possible to raise the money and have even set up our own organising committee."
The six-member team plan to run cake stores and hold sausage sizzles.
They are in desperate need of corporate sponsorship.
"LJ Hooker Kellyville donated us $800 last time from our trip to Queensland and that certainty helped us."
This year's cup will feature eight teams. Brazil are expected to be the team to beat.
Kellyville futsal captain Angela Mokhtar said she was looking forward to going on the tour.
"It's a great achievement for us to have the opportunity to go to Wales," Mokhtar said.
The girls will spend five days at International High School Futsal Cup in Rhyl, northern Wales.
They then go on a 10-day British tour that includes a visit to Manchester United's Football Club's home ground and sports museum at Old Trafford Stadium.
