Stabroek NewsWest Back Road and Norton Street impressWednesday, November 17, 2010Despite rainfall, the Guinness Greatest of the Street Futsal Competition proceeded as planned when the first eight matches of round two were contested at the Burnham Court on Monday night.
The West Back Road and Norton Street teams recorded the most impressive wins as they steamrolled their opponents, Woolford Avenue and Plaisance 6 0 and 7 2, respectively.
West Back Road contested the opening match of the night and immediately took control of the game against Woolford Avenue as Sherwin Grimes drew first blood for them in the fourth minute. Three minutes later Sherman Fraser doubled the lead with a seventh minute goal then further extended in the 11th to complete his double.
In the second half which ran for twelve and a half minutes, Phillip Rowley was the first to score in the 17th minute then Stellon David came into play to score in the 22nd and 23rd minutes to officially put away the opponents.
Norton Street was led by Rajesh George who scored a double when he recorded goals as early as the fourth and fifth minutes. He was supported by Delon Legal, Jermain McLeoud, Sherwin Chase, Quacy Ashby and Lindie Phillips who all scored one goal each for Norton Street.
Chris Grant and Chris Gomes scored for Plaisance in the fifth and twentieth minutes for Plaisance but once the opposition was in full flight their effort went down in vain.
Other victories were recorded by Albouystown A, Hope Street Tiger Bay, Cultural Centre Tarmac and North Last Entrance as they defeated Kingston A, Back Circle, Costello Housing Scheme and Albouystown B, correspondingly.
There were two drawn contests on the night; Sophia and Island All Stars played to a 2 2 end result while Meadow Brook and Drysdale were in a 1 1 deadlock at the final whistle.
Joshua Kamal and Shemroy Arthur were Sophias scorers while Devon Hyman and Jamal Morgan scored to equalize for Island Stars.
In the other draw Michael Moore drew first blood for Meadow Brook in the fifteenth minute then Shawn Morris equalized in the 20th minute to help his team hold Meadow Brook to a draw.
The competition continues on Friday night at the Cultural Centre Tarmac with the first eight matches of round three.

Round three commences tomorrow night with the first eight matches at the same venue from 6pm as Woolford Avenue meets Kingston in the opening match then Back Circle takes on Plaisance, Sophia challenges Albouystown B and Hope Street Tiger Bay collides with Norton Street.
After a one day break, the night resumes with the final four matches which are Island All Star versus North Last Entrance; Castello Housing Scheme battles Drysdale Street; Albouystown A goes head-to-head with West Back Road and Cultural Centre Tarmac meets Meadow Brook Square in the final match.
On Tuesday night West Front Road defeated Yarrowkabra 7 2; Broad Street trounced Festival City 2 0; Stevedore Housing Scheme sank Punt Trench 3 0 and Laing Avenue needled Kitty.
In other results: Alexander Village defeated Leopold Street 1 0; East Front Road got past Bent Street 2 0; Durban Street lost to East La Penitence 1 3 and Queen Street Tiger Bay outplayed Tucville Big Yard 2 1.
Randolph Wagner and Wendell Pedro led West Front Road by both recording hat-tricks. They were supported by Nal Nagaloo who scored a 14th minute goal while Ryan Schultz and Wayne Campbell scored one goal each for the opposition.
Ryan Taylor recorded goals in the sixth and 17th minutes for Stevedore Housing Scheme and was supported by his team mate Elroy Parks who scored an eighth minute goal to help their team get past Punt Trench.
In the Durban Street/East La Penitence match up, Devon Millington scored a brace in the 17th and 19th minutes while Omesur Esui scored in the 20th minute for East La Penitence also.
Durban Street drew first blood in the 10th minute compliments of Rawle Allen.
