Queensland Summer Futsal LeagueWeek 2 of the Queensland Summer Futsal League produced high drama and quality matches at Cornubia last Saturday.
Under 11 – Sunshine Coast def Toowoomba 4-1Sunshine Coast moved to the top of the ladder with a hard fought match agsinst Toowoomba. In a game that produced many opportunities, Sunshine Coast lead 2-1 at half time with goals to Bradley Ellis and Mitchell Peat. Despite Toowoomba’s second half pressure they couldn’t break the strong and disciplined Sunshine Coast defence. Two late goals to Joshua Nisbet and Kobe Fuller gave Sunshine Coast a 4-1 win.
Under 14 – Gold Coast def Sunshine Coast 4-3What was appearing to be a totally one sided affair, turned out to be a thoroughly entertaining game of Futsal. Gold Coast came out firing from the start applying a pressure game which Sunshine Coast found difficult to maintain. The Gold Coast lead 2-0 at half time with goals to Jayden Reid, Luke Weightman.
Gold Coast went three up immediately after the break through Kane Darker and the points appeared to be heading to the Gold Coast. In the 25th minute James Enticknap pulled one back for the Sunshine Coast before Jayden Reid scored his second and Gold Coast’s 4th of the game. The final ten minutes belonged to the Sunshine Coast as they rallied and applied their own pressure to grab two goals through Nic Taylor and Matthew Carrick with five minutes remaining. In the end, the Gold Coast hung on for a 4-3 win.
Under 10 – Sunshine Coast def Gold Coast Coast 9-3Sunshine Coast remained unbeaten in the Summer League with a resounding 9-3 victory against Gold Coast. In the 10th minute the score was level at 2-2 but that’s as close as the Gold Coast could reach of their opponents. Sunshine Coast scored the next seven goals before Gold Coast scored a late consolation deep in the second half. Terone Wattegedara scored a hat-trick for Sunshine Coast while Oliver Duncan and Timu Raubenheimer each scored twice.
Under 12 – Far North NSW def Gold Coast 3-1Far North NSW recorded their first win of the Summer League with a hard fought 3-1 victory despite going a goal down following a 5th minute goal by Gold Coast’s Lachlan Smith. Matt Bond equalized for the New South Welshman before Moritz and Felix Margraff made it 3-1 at the break. The second half was full of excitement and end to end opportunities despite it remaining scoreless. The two goal keepers, Jack Hanson (NSW) and Callum Vine (Gold Coast) put on a show of true brilliance denying both team’s goal scoring opportunities.
Under 10 – Far North NSW def Brisbane 6-2Earlier in the day both team’s put on an exciting match with Far North NSW winning 4-3. In this game, Brisbane appeared to keep up with their opponent until half time, but NSW ran away with it with three unanswered goals. Ethan Archer and Callum Wilson each scored twice for NSW.
The next round of matches will take place on Saturday 27 November at Insports Cornubia, Bryants Road, Shailer Park.
