Boro host East Coast in the season opener Middlesbrough Futsal Club kick off their fourth season in England’s top Futsal League on Sunday against East Coast Futsal Club from Scarborough, who are new to the top flight this season. Boro will host East coast at Thornaby Pavilion on Sunday, kicking off at 1.30pm. Entry is £1 for everyone and Chairman and Manager Damon Shaw is urging people to come and watch.
Pre season preparations have come to an end and the big kick off is this weekend. Shaw has registered a squad of 13 players for the league season, including nine players from last year’s squad and four new faces. Most notably, Josh Poyser has moved to Middlesbrough from rivals Manchester and England international Jason Kilbride.
“I’m happy with the squad for the coming season and the main thing was to keep the players together from last season and build on the experience. Josh (Poyser) will add some experience as well and the three new lads have all impressed so far in the University league.”
Damon Shaw doesn’t think East Coast will have enough to get a result in Thornaby, but speaks highly of their manager Steve Brennan, “As long as we play to our strengths I can’t see us getting anything other than a win against East Coast. However, they will be celebrating a proud moment in their history so they will be well up for it and we have to be careful. Steve (Brennan) has done a fantastic job to get them to where they are now and I hope they have a good season, but not starting on Sunday!”
Middlesbrough and East Coast have met three times in friendly matches and there have been plenty of goals. Boro have come out on top each time, winning 12-3, 11-1 and most recently 7-5. It is promising to be an entertaining match to kick off the season at Thornaby Pavilion.
Entry is £1 and the doors open at 12.30pm. Instruments and singing is encouraged! For more information visit www.BoroFutsal.com
