Boro go top after thrashing East CoastTuesday 23 Nov 2010England International Jason Kilbride inspired Boro to a comfortable win over East Coast at Thornaby Pavilion in the opening game of the FA Futsal League season with a ten minute four goal haul in the second half. Mikey Roberts opened the scoring after ten minutes before Josh Poyser, making his Boro debut scored his first goal for the club and man of the match Jonathon Prosser got a third before the break from his own half.
Sean O'Brien scored the first of seven second half goals, four of which came from the captain and his Great Britain team mates Mikey Roberts and Robbie Bettson sent Boro into double figures.
East Coast were marking a historical occasion as they made their debut in the FA Futsal League but will want to move on quickly after conceding 10 against a Boro side who are yet to find their form.
Middlesbrough have never lost an opening day league match and Sunday was no exception as they took their place on the top of The FA Futsal League North.
Manager Damon Shaw said after the game: “We played well in some parts of the game but it showed that we haven’t had the best preparation. Hopefully now the league is underway we can get some momentum going and build on the result against East Coast.
“We want to challenge for the title and we have the quality to do that but we need to step up the level over the next few months.”
Boro travel away to Leeds on Sunday who held Manchester to a 3-3 draw at the weekend and will themselves be aiming for the top after signing a several experienced players including Boro target Mat Payne.
