Ricky off to the USA

TAREE'S Ricky Campbell jets out to America today as a member of the Australian under 19 futsal (indoor soccer) side.

He'll be away for 16 days.

The 13 strong Australian side will play in a tournament in San Francisco starting next week.

Campbell was named in the Australian side following championships played in January where Campbell, 18, was a member of the Northern NSW squad.

He said the Australian side hasn't trained together yet.

"But we have six days over there before the tournament starts,'' he added.

"So we have plenty of time.''

Campbell says he's unsure what teams the Australians will play in the tournament.

"I think there's going to be a few international sides there, but I don't know who they are,'' he said.

Campbell said a number of friendly games are also scheduled.

The tournament will run for four days.

Campbell plays for Taree Wildcats in the Football Mid North Coast Premier League. He suffered an ankle injury mid-season that sidelined him for a month, but says he's fully recovered now and has no fitness concerns.

There are five players on the court at one time in futsal with replacements allowed. There are no set positions in what can be a frantic game.

Campbell had to raise $5500 to make the trip.
