November 27, 2010WELLINGTON - Sydney’s Maccabi Hakoah went top of the table after an impressive start on Day One, Series One of the New Zealand Football Futsal National League at South West Stadium in Wellington on Saturday.
The experienced and well drilled Maccabi head off series hosts Capital City Futsal and Football South Futsal with a superior goal difference after all three teams ended the day unbeaten on seven points.
After an entertaining 0-0 draw with Capital in the opening game, Maccabi demolished Christchurch Futsal 15-2 and Red Sox Manawatu 7-1 with precision futsal in front of a captivated local crowd.
Futsalroos Doron Pozniak and Daniel Fulton led the way for the NSW Superleague champions, while Capital, featuring five members of the current Futsal Whites squad, overcame Auckland rivals East City 4-2 and Christchurch Futsal 7-1 to keep in touch with the Australians.
In the game of the day, East City fought back from 4-1 down with three minutes left on the clock to force a 4-4 draw against the excellent Football South Futsal.
Series One continues on Sunday with each of the six teams playing two further games.
Series Two and Three take place in February and March.
