AFC Futsal Player of the Year: Mohammad Taheri

Wednesday, 24 November 2010

Iranian Mohammad Taheri was named AFC Futsal Player of the Year, beating previous winner Vahid Shamsaee and Uzbek Rustam Umarov to the grand prize.

Prolific striker Taheri scored 13 goals in helping Iran to the AFC Futsal Championship 2010, a feat that earned him the Most Valuable Player prize.

“I am very happy to come here among some of the biggest names of Asian football,” said Taheri after receiving the award from AFC ExCo member Hussein Saeed. “This award will help me to aim for more success.

“I will not rest after getting this award. It will only help me get a better player.

“I am winning this award after Vahid Shamsaee, one of the greatest players of futsal. I am happy to win it after him.”

Umarov was the Uzbekistan goalkeeper as the Central Asians finished runners-up to Iran in the AFC Futsal Championship 2010.

Iran’s Shamsaee, one of the greatest Asian futsal players of all time, inspired Foolad Mahan Sepahan to the inaugural AFC Club Futsal Championship 2010 title.

He was also named as the tournament Most Valuable Player.
