Middlesbrough face tough Leeds clash

Middlesbrough travel away to Leeds in the FA Futsal League North aiming to build on their opening day win over East Coast on Sunday. An away win would keep Middlesbrough on top with only reigning champions Sheffield able to match the 6 point haul.

In the same fixture last season, Boro took a weakened team to Leeds University, and came away on the end of an 8-4 defeat. They will be looking to make up for that on Sunday and keep the pressure up at the top end of the table.

Leeds have strengthened significantly with players from Manchester crossing the Pennines to play for Junior Roberti’s side, while former Boro player Mat Payne has also signed. England international goalkeeper James Dalton is also a key player for the Yorkshire side.

Boro boss Damon Shaw said earlier this week that he wants his side to challenge for the title and Leeds will be a tough test they have to overcome if they are serious about those aims.

“Leeds will up there as well, as they showed by going away to Manchester and picking up a point but we’re confident that we know their strengths and weaknesses. We’ve got a strong team available and I hope the big players can pick tomorrow’s game to turn it on,” said Shaw.

Meanwhile, the under-18s trials were held on Friday at Middlesbrough College with a good turnout which is promising for the future of the club. Trials will continue every Friday until Christmas, with a team of 12 being chosen after the holidays to represent Boro in youth competitions.
