Sheffield TelegraphGoals galore as 22-up Sheffield hammer LiverpoolThu Dec 02It was a day when the ice-breakers became the record-breakers.
Sheffield FC Futsal forgot the big chill and turned up the heat as they handed out a stunning 22-3 beating to Liverpool at Hillsborough Leisure Centre.
The reigning Northern champions’ league victory was one for the record books and put them top of the table after two games.
Ward put Sheffield ahead but the visitors, the only team to beat them last season, equalised with a surprise counter. The home side quickly regained control and Mortlock restored their lead which signalled the start of a goal spree as Sheffield added nine more before half-time. Leyshon and Oldham each scored twice and others came from Rocha, Ward, Tyndell, Steel and Chapman, while a shell-shocked Liverpool grabbed a further goal.
It was the Merseysiders who opened the scoring in the second half but their resistence evaporated as Sheffield again went on the rampage to add 11 more goals to their tally courtesy of a hat-trick from Ward, a brace from Leyson and Oldham plus one each for Tyndell, Mortlock, Steel and Chapman.
Next up is a trip to last season’s league runners-up, Manchester, at the Manchester Velodrome on Sunday.
