Natalie PeutDecember 6th, 2010YOUNG futsal talent Jacob Staton will wear the Australian jersey when he heads over to New Zealand in March next year.
His selection in the team topped off a successful season for the 11-year-old who has triumphed in both outdoor football and futsal.
Staton, who admitted his family were football fanatics, has played outdoor football for the past three years and futsal for 18 months.
The Townsville-born player started his representative career in under-10s where he played for Townsville in the Filippo Mele competition which his team won.
He then went on to to play in the John Bombem carnival in Cairns where his side was undefeated.
After finishing third at the North Queensland Games, the team then decided to play futsal for a season.
Playing against much older players in the futsal competition has proved highly beneficial and Staton's mother Dani said his game had developed quickly.
The dramatic improvement will see Staton play in the under-12 Centre of Excellence for outdoor next year.
Staton's performance at the futsal nationals in Brisbane earned him his Australian jersey after selectors realised his versatility as a player and goalkeeper.
Staton will tour New Zealand for 10 days.
