The Jewish ChronicleMaccabi GB names EMG futsal squad by
Danny CaroDecember 14, 2010Jonny Cohen, manager of the Maccabi GB Open futsal squad, is targeting a medal after naming the squad for next year’s European Maccabi Games in Vienna.
Under Cohen, MGB have competed a the two Maccabi European Futsal Trophies in Madrid and Torremolinos as well as last year’s Maccabiah Games in Israel. He believes that the nine-man squad has the best possible chance of bringing home silverware.
“I feel ready to put these experiences to best use this summer in Vienna,” said Cohen who will utilise the services of Brazilian futsal coach James de Rosa who managed National League futsal team London United.
The management team trio is completed by assistant player manager Daniel Sugarman of Redbridge Jewish Care.
Cohen said: “The squad represents an excellent blend of youth, experience, flair, ability and character. We have been training for several weeks and having spoken to each player individually it has been established that there is deep-rooted belief and collective goal to bring back a medal from Vienna. In addition to which the entire squad is determined to prepare in the most professional fashion and with captain Motti Colman setting the standards the team has the best possible chance of achieving this goal.
“From a personal point of view I am equally determined to come back with a medal and at the same time I am also extremely keen for the squad to enjoy a hugely enriching Jewish cultural experience that these games represent.”
