Carlos AruafuThursday, 16 December 2010The national futsal squad Kurukuru is eying the Asia Tiger Five tournament which will be staged early next year.
Head coach Dickson Kadau confirmed that after a negative response to attend the Australian futsal championship, the team shifted their focus to plan B “that is the Asia Tiger Five tournament”.
Mr Kadau said ‘Tiger Five’ is a very competitive tournament, “and that’s good for the Kurukuru boys so that they receive tough challenges before going into the qualifying tournament”.
“Since we cannot access the Australian championship, the team looking at the Asian Tiger Five tournament.
“The Australian futsal championship was the team’s first focus, to use as build ups in preparation for the World Cup qualifying tournament in May next year.”
For now, he said the Kurukuru national futsal squad continues to step up in its three days a week training schedule.
“The team has been on training for quite some time now, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.”
Mr Kadau said if plan B fails, then they will move onto plan C.
“If the proposed matches in the Tiger Five tournament does not work out, the team will then look at having three test matches with the Australian national futsal squad.”
He said the team is planning to have these build up matches three to four months prior to the futsal world cup qualifying tournament.
The Kurukuru boys will be given a two weeks break during the Christmas period and will resume trainings on January 10 next year.
Meanwhile, Kurukuru will be having their first friendly match against the selected U17 mens squad.
The match is schedule for Friday at the SIFF Academy.
That will be Kurukuru’s first friendly match after they named their final squad for the World Cup qualifying tournament next year in Tahiti.
The team will then take on the national beach soccer boys in their second friendly match on Saturday.
The match will take place at the Multipurpose Hall starting at 12pm.
“The match is simply display their (both teams) current fitnesses, as the beach boys are also preparing for their international tournament,”Mr Kadau said
It is also a build match in preparation for the upcoming tournaments both teams are facing.
The Kurukuru is preparing for the world cup qualifying tournament while the Bilikiki team is also preparing for the beach soccer world cup qualifying matches early next year.
