Rick chases more rep honours

by Mick McDonald

17 Dec, 2010

He'S just back from America where he represented Australia under 18s in a futsal tournament played in America.

And while he was away, Taree's Ricky Campbell celebrated his 19th birthday.

Now he's setting his sights on wearing the green and gold again, as soon as 2011.

"There's trials in Sydney early next year and they'll be picking a side to attend a tournament sometime later in the year,'' Campbell explained.

"I'll be trying out for it again for sure.''

Campbell concedes he doesn't know when or where the Australians will be in action. But he intends to do everything in his power to ensure he's involved.

Campbell said the Australians had some mixed results while in the US. While they didn't have any matches against other international sides, they ran into some top American college teams. These games, Campbell said, were the fastest he's ever played in and certainly the most challenging.

"You'd only be on the court for a couple of minutes before looking for a sub,'' he explained.

"And the refereeing was really good, too.''

Australia played around 10 matches in all, although not all in the tournament, where they failed to make the final. Campbell said he was happy with his form, especially in a game won 12-2 by the Australians, where he scored four goals.

Campbell's already back into his busy sporting routine at home. He plays with Cundletown in Manning A-grade cricket and also in the Manning futsal competition. He'll again be lining up for Taree Wildcats in the Football Mid North Coast Premier League in 2011.
