Carlos AruafuFriday, 17 December 2010Central Kings are the 2010 mens open futsal champions after defeating Zome Mars 3-1 in the grand final match at the multipurpose Hall yesterday.
The venue, was jam packed as spectators were keen to see the two new comers in the Honiara futsal scene, Central Kings and Zome Mars battle it out.
Kurukuru sensation and Central Kings Captain Robert Laua showed why he was the leader of the Kings squad scoring all the three goals to claim the victory for his team.
It was Kurukuru sensation Robert Laua who got the scoring underway in just the first minute and eventually stole the show, scoring two more to seal the victory.
His second goal was a free gift pass from Zome Mars captain who identified Laua as his compatriot only to watch the ball fired into his net who received the ball.
Zome did made some attempts at goal, but fell short of the Kings who played a very careful and professional game.
Central Kings with a very strong attacking nearly added some more to their scoreboard but Mars was always on alert.
The first half ended with scores locked at 2-0 with very little chances for Mars.
The second stanza saw both teams returned with renewed strength.
Mars came in strongly in search for goal to deficit the scorline but to no avail.
They changed tactic by slamming a number of long range shots at goal did not work as well.
A breather for them came in the 26th minutes when their Captain found the back of the net for their only goal.
They almost earned a second goal in the final minute but with the watchful eyes of the Kings keeper, the ball was flicked out.
Central Kings Coach Alick Collin praised his boys for their well done performance.
“I’m really impressed with the boys’ performance; they did find their way through the solid defense line of the Mars.
“I knew Mars was very good at defense so I told the boys to give more strength to the attacking until they are puffed out, that’s when we’ll find our way through,” he said.
KC Ambassadors finish third after beating Real Lights 3-1 in the losers final.
