Fiji TimesKhan is new Futsal coachby
Amit RajFORMER national and Suva midfielder Intiaz Khan has been reappointed as national Futsal team coach.
Fiji Football Association vice-president and Futsal Commission chairman Anil Sharma confirmed the appointment yesterday.
"There aren't many Futsal coaches around," he said.
"We have faith in bhaiya (Intiaz). He is the best that we have at the moment."
Khan, a former national Futsal rep as well, scored the winning goal when Suva last won a major tournament which was the 1995 Battle of the Giants.
He was national Futsal coach in 2008 and 2009 before being replaced by Fiji FA development officer Hussein Saheb.
Sharma said national selectors would be keeping an eye out on players in tonight's 2010 Fiji FA/ Sun and Sharma's Insurance Futsal league at the Vodafone Arena.
"Oceania Futsal manager Scott Gilligan will be coming next month and we hope to have a squad ready.
"We intend to have a squad of 20 players. The criterion is selectors will be looking out for fitness, skills, speed and footwork because Futsal is altogether different from football.
The Oceania Football Confederation qualifiers for the next Futsal World Cup will be held at the Vodafone Arena in July.
Fiji has never won the OFC Futsal Championship. Title favourites Solomon Islands named its 15-member squad for the qualifiers on December 10.
