FAIFinnish Futsal test awaits IrelandThursday, 02 December 2010The Republic of Ireland Futsal squad to play two matches against Finland in Tampere and Jyväskylä on Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 December respectively was named today by Manager, Derek O'Neill.
The squad contains two new caps with Joe Watson and Darren Kavanagh selected for the first time. Watson recently made a big impression in the European Deaf Futsal Championships and has earned the chance at senior level.
Kavanagh also has played in the European Universities Championship and in light of his performances in this season's Emerald Futsal League has earned an opportunity.
Manager O'Neill said: " Although it's the last two friendly matches before January, the squad is still not yet finalised. There are other players not in this squad who have impressed previously but I needed to take a look at other options to see if they were up to the higher level before deciding on the players to represent us in January. It's reassuring that there are other quality performers available to consider before finally naming the UEFA Championship squad later this month."
These are the final matches before the team hosts Norway, Israel and Andorra in the UEFA Futsal Championships in Dublin in January.
The squad departs Dublin on Sunday morning 12th December and returns to Dublin Wednesday evening 15th December.
