Youth futsal and league update

The final session of the Perth Youth Futsal Winter 2010 session is scheduled to take place on Friday, January 7.

This will feature the last remaining league games of the winter 2010 season as well as the knockout PYF Xmas Cup.

The new spring 2011 season starts on January 14 and feature significant changes. Among the changes are a move to run a six team league for the 14/15 year old age group, and a four team league for the 16/17 year old age group.

Players can join as part of a team or as individuals and all players will be expected to participate in the PYF Academy session which will run in the Coaching Hall from 7–8pm, with the 14/15 league running from 8–9pm and the 16/17 league running from 9–10pm.

Players and teams are advised to register asap as places are very limited. The smaller number of teams involved will ensure a significant increase in the amount of game time per player.

The PYF Skillz School will continue to operate as usual and will be open to players aged up to 17 years old. Places are limited to 25 players so early registration is advised. Registration in all cases is £3 per season and session fees are £2 per evening.

PYF are hosting another sitting of their PYF Level 1 Coaching Course in the new year and are pleased to report that the PYF Level 2 course will be held in August and will feature a highly acclaimed National Futsal Team Manager as lecturer. All PYF Coaching sessions will only be open to registered PYF Coaches. Anyone interested in joining PYF as a Futsal Coach should contact the club.

The annual PYF open tournament, due to take place in April 2011, has been changed to a summer date and will now be held on June 25 and 26.

The club’s Perth Saltires team are in action on Monday, January 10, when they face Unreal Madrid in their first game in phase two of the National Futsal League. It will be a very tough encounter but the PYF team will be hoping to continue the good progress they have been making this season.

Plans are also underway to arrange for PYF teams to participate in the prestigious Costa Blanca Futsal Cup in Valencia in mid-July. Full details will be announced to the PYF Academy players in due course.

Tickets for the PYF Xmas raffle are still available for sale, top prize is a trip for two to Old Trafford to watch a Manchester United game, or an alternative prize of a new Apple ipad. Due to the postponement of the session scheduled for Friday, December 17, the draw will now take place on Friday, January 14.

PYF will be hosting an Alternative Burns Supper night on Friday, February 4, tickets are £15 each and are now available for sale. Anyone interested in attending should call or email the club for tickets or more information.

The club are looking for three volunteers willing to attend committee meetings, which are usually held on the first Saturday of every month from 10–11am. The next meeting will be held on Saturday, January 8. Contact Steve Chatila if you would like to become involved.

Finally, the club would like to wish all players, parents, coaches and officials a Very Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.
