Andri VigfussonToday is the day! The historical debut of the
Icelandic national team will finally come true through the second preliminary round group B game in the Asvellir hall based in Hafnarfjördur. Iceland will face Latvia in such an important day for futsal in the country. In the past weeks the recently appointed head coach
Willum Thór Thórsson worked hard in order to prepare the roster at its best: on saturday 9th he splitted the working group in two teams, as reported by the
KSI futsal committee, playing a friendly game in order to evaluate all players.
The match itself was exciting and enjoyable. The Blue team got an early 3-0 lead after 8 minutes of play and seemed comfortable with their lead in half time, 5-2. The White team came more determined in the second half, settling the score to 5-5 before gaining a 5-6 lead with a kick from the second penalty mark with seven minutes left on the clock. The Blue team fought on and managed to tie the match up again, 6-6, with their own kick from the second penalty mark. After exciting final minutes, the Blue team got the lead again, yet by a kick from the second penalty mark, which secured their 7-6 win over the White team in Iceland's first ever national team match.
