Paire sweeps women's futsal league

by Roselyn Monroyo

Paire Football Club had a double celebration last Saturday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium after ruling both the A and B divisions of the 2010 NMIFA Women's Futsal Fall League.

Paire started its twin wins with a title-clinching victory in the A league against MP United, 8-1. The eventual champion notched a 6-0 lead in the first half of the finals and still outscored MP United in the second half, 2-1, to cruise to an easy win.

Megan Herber drilled three goals in the first half and added one more in the second for Paire's dominating win. Patricia Coleman made two in the first half, while Priscilla Norman and Vanessa Pritchard had one apiece.

Other members of the champion Paire squad are goalie Rebecca Schroeder, Rebecca Iseman, Amber Roberts, Zoe Jewell, and Connie Camacho.

Carrie Schuler nailed the lone goal for MP United, which advanced to the finals after beating Independents A1 in the semifinals, 3-1.

Paire claimed the first finals seat after routing Independents Football Club A2, 8-0. Paire was unbeaten throughout the season to defend its fall championship. In 2009, Paire finished the double-round robin league with a 6-2-0 win-draw-loss records, tying MP United and won on points to gain the fall championship.

Paire's B league team also ruled the 2009 fall season and completed the back-to-back championships after a 2-1 finals win over the youthful crew of Matansa U18 last Saturday.

Paire's B league team or its recreational squad is composed of mothers and the much slower, but experienced players turned back the hands of time, stunning the young strikers of Matansa.

Vanessa Mobel scored twin goals for Paire, making a header in the first half and a breakaway goal in the second. Roxie Lamar hit Paire's first goal early in the first half. Phalai Frink tallied both goals for Matansa U18 in the second half.

Maria Ornes, who was part of Paire's 2009 champion team, played goalie for the winning squad and was busy all day diving for saves. Completing the team are Dan Wang, Lori Serna, Sonal Patil, Leanne Loan, Temary Gramlich, Angie Mister, Linda Anastacio, and Stephanie Shapiro.

Paire advanced to the B finals after downing Tan Holdings in the semis early in the morning. Matansa U12 booked the second finals ticket after surviving Shirley's Coffee Shop in a shootout. Shirley's settled for third place after beating Tan Holdings.
