Sport 360°DSC to use Futsal to promote football among womenFriday, 28 January 2011The Sport360° Futsal Super Cup will be held at Mirdiff City Centre’s Soccer Circus from February 10 and 12.
The event has been designed for three age groups - under-15, under-18 and 18 and above.
Event Co-ordinator of organisers Stadia5, Faris Al Mudaffer, said: “We have a very strong platform to promote Futsal. We think it’s a very special part of football development.
“As you can see Spain, Japan and other countries have developed Futsal programmes which have helped improve technical abilities over the years.”
A total of 60 teams are expected to participate in the tournament.
Wosim Tahan, partner Stadia5, said: “We are expecting a huge crowd. We have been told around 7,000 people turn up (at the mall).”
The tournament will be played on a round-robin basis followed by a knock-out stage.
Rashid Al Kamali, Director Marketing and Promotion, Dubai Sports Council (DSC), said: “The reason we are backing this event is because of the separate age categories and because Dubai Sports Council is keen to encourage this event.
“We want more people to come and participate in sporting activities and develop a sports lifestyle in Dubai from a young age. A programme is also being developed for women soccer as it is very popular.”
