Manchester 4 Boro 2

Boro supporters are the best in the country, but see their team fall 4-2 to Manchester

Middlesbrough manager Damon Shaw isn’t too disheartened after falling 4-2 to title rivals Manchester in Manchester on Sunday but realises the next two games against reigning champions Sheffield are do or die if Boro want to reach the end of season playoffs.

“We didn’t play too badly against Manchester and it could easily have ended 4-2 in the other direction,” he said after the game. “Mikey [Roberts]’s missed penalty probably knocked us and he also hit the post and bar in the second half. If our finishing was a bit better on Sunday, and we tightened up our defence it would have been a different story.

“Bar a few errors, we were good and I’m happy with the progress we’re making. Manchester deserved the win and showed their experience. We’ve now got two vital games against Sheffield that will shape our season. Two wins are a must if we are to finish in the top two, even then it will still be close!”

Middlesbrough’s defeat came in front of a travelling group of supporters from Middlesbrough Football Club’s loyalist fans – the Red Faction, who brought flags, instruments and chants to a futsal game in England for the first time.

“It was an honour to play for supporters, especially ones as passionate as the Boro fans. It’s a big moment for us and for futsal. They will soon get a reputation of the best fans in the country and it will drive us on to do better for them,” said Shaw.

Stuart Bellamy, a member of the ‘Boro Futsal Ultras’ said on twitter about their trip to Manchester: “It’s what we do best [supporting Boro]! And we enjoyed it a lot, I’m sure you will be hearing more from us home and away!”

Boro’s next game comes on 13th February away to reigning champions Sheffield at Hillsborough Leisure Centre before they host Sheffield at home on 6th March. You can keep up with the team on their official website, BoroFutsal.com or on twitter @borofutsal.
