Sowetan LiveCamp hones indoor squad2-feb-2011by
Matome LebeaMAQSOOD Chenia, the national coach of the indoor soccer squad, believes their week-long camp taking place in Stellenbosch will sharpen the team for the CAF Futsal Championships in Burkina Faso from April 3 to 17.
Apart from the hosts and South Africa, other countries that will compete are Morocco, Cameroon, Egypt, Tunisia, Libya and Angola. The top three countries in the Burkina Faso tournament will qualify for the Fifa Futsal World Cup in Thailand next year.
The camp at Stellenbosch University started on Monday and will end on Saturday.
Chenia, who is also assistant coach of the national U-20 side, said they had assembled a 20-member squad that includes former Moroka Swallows player Peter Rabolele.
"We are impressed by the boys' commitment and hope that their performance will improve with time. The team will be reduced to 15 players in our next camp from March 15 to 20," said Chenia yesterday. He said they will play a friendly match against Cameroon in three weeks' time and will also host Mozambique next month.
