Teens fundraise for UK futsal tour

4th February 2011

NATHAN Butterick and Billy Hayes admit it is the chance of a lifetime.

But before they reach their UK futsal tour goal, the 14-year-olds will have to overcome a few hurdles.

About 13,000 in fact.

“We are doing some fundraising to try and help,” Hayes’ dad Andrew said.

“We need about $13,000 in total (to cover travel expenses).”

Hayes and Butterick were chosen in the Australian Vikings under-15 boys’ futsal team, which will spend 19 days in the UK in October.

The pair earned their stripes playing for the Hillbillies in Grafton’s futsal competition.

And after various representative trials – including last month’s 2011 National Club Futsal Titles – Hayes and Butterick set their sights overseas.

“It should be good,” Hayes said.

“It will be really challenging.”

Despite impressive pedigrees for Westlawn in outdoor soccer, both Butterick and Hayes admit the Vikings’ indoor side is “a pretty strong team”.

Meaning there will be some talented players to cash in on the professional coaching set to come the squad’s way.

In conjunction with Welsh club Rhyl, the base for Premier League club Everton’s foundation academy, the Vikings tour will see the line-up coached by experts at both Everton and fellow English giants Manchester City.

The 2011 tour is the Vikings’ 15th annual trip with the initial deposit of $500 per player due February 14. To assist with sponsorship or fundraising ideas contact 6642 6928.
