Sunbury's Dibs on having a soccer career

WHILE European soccer matches may be on TV too late at night for Sunbury soccer hopeful Nicholas Dib to watch regularly, he happily dreams of starring in one of them later in life.

The 11-year-old has just returned from his second National Futsal Championships, this time as Victoria’s under-11 captain in the fast five-a-side version of the world game.

“It was good,” Nicholas said. “We played games against NSW, Auckland, Tasmania, Queensland and the ACT.” And while Victoria finished third on the ladder, Nicholas took comfort in the fact his team had beaten the overall winners Auckland earlier in the competition.

The Sunbury Primary student also plays for the Melbourne Knights under-12 team and will travel to Singapore this year with the DOC Football Academy.

“It’s just a good sport,” he said. “When I get older I want to play for Liverpool because they’re a good team - and they’ve got Steven Gerrard!”

Nicholas Dib has been nominated as a Sunbury Leader Sports Star. To nominate a sports star send their details to sunburyleader.com.au
