Pine River PressMitchell answers Aussie call15 Feb 11by
Nick BerrettBRAY Park futsal star Mitchell Wilson has been selected to represent Australia in Malaysia at the end of the year.
The talented 11-year-old was picked for the 20-strong under-11 squad after impressing at national futsal championships in Sydney recently.
He also earned an All-Star jersey from the tournament.
Mother Rhonda Wilson said Mitchell, who will play in goal for Australia, was ecstatic after learning of his selection.
``Excited is not the word, he ran down the corridor screaming `I have done it’,’’ she said.
``He has been playing futsal for four years, and has played the last three seasons for the Pine Rivers Eels at regionals.’‘
Ms Wilson said Mitchell used to play outdoor soccer but had given it away this year to focus on futsal (an indoor version on a smaller pitch) and his other love, cricket, where he is a wicketkeeper.
His dream is to one day play for the Futsalroos, futsal’s Australian senior team.
``He saw them on the TV the other week and that is what he wants to be,’’ Ms Wilson said.
However, getting Mitchell to Malaysia will be a task itself.
Ms Wilson said she had two jobs to ensure she could accompany her son, a severe asthmatic, on the trip.
Ms Wilson said any sponsorship to help Mitchell would be appreciated.
The team leaves to play in Malaysia in November. Phone Rhonda on 0410411753
