AFC-UEFA ref exchanges enter year 3

Wednesday, 09 February 2011

Kuala Lumpur: The AFC-UEFA referee exchange programme has entered into its third year thanks to the brilliant collaboration made possible between the two football confederations, said AFC Referees Director Yoshimi Ogawa.

The latest activity in the exchange programme is currently taking place as part of the AFC Elite Education Seminar (EES) 2011 Part 2 now taking place here in Malaysia’s capital until February 23, 2011.

Croatian Ivan Novak will be a Guest Instructor in two courses in the EES - Elite Futsal Referee Instructors’ and Elite Futsal Referees’ Courses - while Gerald Bauernfeind from Austria will be a Guest Participant in the Elite Futsal Referees’ Course.

Ogawa said that AFC and UEFA will each send about three persons every year to the other continent to either instruct or participate in a course.

“We will send two participants and one instructor to UEFA sometime this year under the exchange programme. The date has yet to be fixed by UEFA.

“The response from our UEFA compatriots to the exchange programme has been encouraging so far. We look forward to welcoming more friends from UEFA to join our courses under this exchange programme, which we started in 2009,” said Ogawa.

The programme aims to facilitate the sharing of experiences and expertise as well forging closer solidarity and cooperation between referees from both confederations.
